Tom Dixon is one of the most original British designers of his generation; a rebel of the avant-garde of international design. Awarded the title “”Designer of the Year”” in 2006, with exhibits in museums throughout the world, this self-taught designer has had a truly unusual career. In 1980 Tom Dixon was a rock guitarist, working as a show host in a discotheque at night and by day learning how to solder with a friend who ran a garage. He started his career by making furniture from recycled metal. Twenty years later, the brand is global. After having been artistic director at Habitat, he set up on his own making lighting and furniture that embodies the new industrial spirit- a passion for raw materials, craftsmanship and industrial forms.
